There exist a few artists within the ethereal Indie Pop space that have continual replay value beyond a project or two. Chanel Beads is one of those artists. Their sound takes what is a historically formulaic genre, and experiment with experimental sounds; underscoring a harmonic electric guitar with cymbal-heavy drums or cutting violin chords. The absence of discordance within such a rich and abstract sound is possibly the most impressive feat of Lavers. Shane Lavers brings a musical vision that is equally the breadth of the Cocteau Twins and the folk rhythm of Men I Trust. I am especially drawn to vocalist Maya McGrory. Her voice carries a genuine sound of disengaged passion reminiscent of Spirit Blue or The Crying Nudes, mixed with a specifically European angst similar to Joanne Robertson. From album to album, they show evident evolution as artists, taking on a variety of sounds and instruments, and taking aspects of various indie genres in the time from True Altruism to their debut album, Your Day Will Come. I find it impossible to believe that there is not at least one song every person would gravitate to from this artist.
